The Difference Between Flowers and Weeds

One February morning, while it is still dark, a tall man from northwest of Bergen climbs into a Volvo V70 and drives to Flesland Airport, where he boards a mid-morning flight to Manchester.

On the same plane, a couple of rows back, sits a woman of the same age, around fifty, born and raised in south Bergen. The ten different addresses she has called home at different points in her life have all been within a radius of five kilometres as the crow flies.

Both are headed to a windswept town on the English west coast. But under the drifting clouds, something isn’t quite right, and soon the two Norwegians find out why the sleepy seaside resort is known as the devil’s beach.

The Difference Between Flowers and Weeds is a story about living small in the big wide world, about mud flats and oil, and about human destinies that cross paths like birds in flight.Praise
