By Finn Iunker
Finn Iunker’s first novel.
Romance tells the story of Anton, who meets Lina, but also of his fragile relationship with his son, who constantly reminds Anton of the time he met his son’s mother, the woman he loved more than anything in the world. Can Anton truly love Lina when he is unable to erase the memory of his son’s mother?
Romance also follows a more intellectual thread. Anton is a Brecht scholar and is forced to confront the question of Palestine when The International Brecht Society, of which he is a member, decides to hold a Brecht conference in Tel Aviv.
Parts of Romance are set in Holmlia in the spring of 2022, while key scenes also unfold in Copenhagen and Bergen, as well as in the Faroe Islands and Åland. Romance is a beautifully told story that seeks to articulate a political consciousness in contrast to the conditions of love, which are always concrete.
