Something is coming to an end. Some are already on their way out
In Levi Henriksen’s new collection of short stories, the world trembles with intimations of departure.
The stories in Postcards from Waterloo move away from Skogli and the familiar Henriksen landscape, venturing instead into new cities, new spaces and new encounters. Each story bears the name of a well-known person, real or fictional. The result is a kind of literary concept album, in which the names create connections and give the collection a distinctive sense of unity.
As always, Henriksen writes with warmth and compassion for vulnerable human beings, with an eye for men and women caught in the in-between spaces of life, and with a musicality that makes each story feel like a little song of its own. With this collection, he confirms his position as one of the foremost chroniclers of longing, loss and hope in contemporary Norwegian literature.
