Lise Myhre

Lise Myhre is a Norwegian comic book artist behind the comic strip Nemi and, with Synnøve Borge, a series of fact books.

Lise Myhre (born 1975) is the Norwegian comic book artist behind the comic strip Nemi. Nemi was given its own publication in 2003. Today it is one of Norway’s most widely read comics and the one that has been mostly widely translated.

After finishing school Lise Myhre took graphic design and art history at the Santa Monica College of Art in California, before moving to Oslo in 1995, where she continued her studies at the Mercantile Institute (graphic design/Mac design). She also worked as a bartender at So What! and Elm Street rock bar at the same time. Myhre began taking jobs as an illustrator as a teenager, producing her first comic strips in 1996. These were published in Norsk Mad, Pyton and the free newspaper Planetarium C, among others. Her early series did not feature repeat characters, but soon came Anne And – a series that began life as a tribute to Charlie Christensen’s Arne And (which in turn is a parody of Donald Duck ) – and M.P., which was published in Larson’s Gale Verden. Nemi saw the light of day in 1997, first as an occasional character in jokes poking fun at goth culture, but soon as the main character in her own series (also in Larson’s Gale Verden).

Nemi quickly became popular and debuted as a daily comic strip in Dagbladet in 1999. In the same year Myhre won the Comic Book Award for Newcomers at the Raptus Festival in Bergen. In 2002, she received the City of Oslo’s Artist Award for her ‘outstanding contribution to Oslo’s art scene’. Myhre has also illustrated poems by Edgar Allan Poe and André Bjerke with characters from Nemi. As an illustrator and book consultant, she has worked on record covers, day schedulers, school books and horror books
