
Mariann Youmans knows her audience through many years of working with young people, thorough research and interviews with both professionals and young people.
Fjortis. Alt du lurer på is a guide to puberty for boys and girls aged 11 to 15 and their parents. Her earlier critically acclaimed non-fiction books for young people, published by Gyldendal, include Norsk – Multikultur på sitt beste (2009), Helt hyper? ADHD ADD ABC (2008) and Rett & slett – Rettighetsboka for deg under 18 (2006). Rett & slett was nominated for the Ministry of Culture’s award for the best non-fiction book for children and young adults. She has also written fiction for children. Tessy & Tankred: Tøffere enn toget (2009) took second place in Gyldendal and Norli’s competition for the best children’s novel and was nominated for the ARK Children’s Book Prize. She is also the author of the Toto picture-book series.
Mariann Youmans (born 1971) lives in Oslo and works as a consultant, author and speaker. She also teaches writing courses for children and young people. She holds two bachelor’s degrees in the humanities and social sciences from the University of Oslo and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, has trained as a group facilitator and holds a master’s degree in screenwriting from UCLA in Los Angeles.
She led the children’s rights project Barn i fokus – unge premisser, served on the interim board of Norway’s Forum for the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and was part of Norway’s delegation to the UN in connection with a UN children’s summit. She later led youth initiatives and development projects in partnership with various organisations. She has also written plays and scripts for animated film, television drama and radio drama for TV 2 and NRK.
