
Kristine Rui Slettebakken grew up in Kragerø and has lived in Oslo. She has worked for many years as an actor and audiobook narrator. She is also a drama educator and has taught drama at upper secondary school. Slettebakken completed a two-year creative writing programme at the Norwegian Institute for Children’s Books.
She made her literary debut with Jo har skjedd (2020), which was nominated for Trollkrittet, the debut award of the Norwegian Writers for Children and Young Adults. Her second book, Sommer med Jo (2021), won the Ministry of Culture’s Literature Prize and was nominated for both the Brage Prize and the ARK Children’s Book Prize. In 2023, she received the Booksellers’ Grant for Children’s and Young Adult Literature. For Billie og Bo og den heidundrandes jula (2024), Slettebakken and illustrator Nora Brech received the Brage Prize.
